ARS Call Progress Tone Detection

Purpose

The ARS Call Progress Tone Detection form specifies which call progress tones should be detected during call set-up and the action to take in response to each tone. A maximum of 100 call progress tone detection plans can be programmed.

Dial tone is detected by an algorithm that monitors the frequency and energy characteristics of the incoming signal. Dial tone is detected when any large signal is present for sufficient time. The algorithm relies on the assumption that no other tone is expected at that time. This technique can detect dial tones that are not listed in the table of detectable tones, noise-based dial tones, and tones that have corrupted frequency characteristics. Frequency detection of dial tone is faster than the energy detection technique.

Default Value

Tone Plan Number

Enter a number to identify the ARS Call Progress Tone Detection plan. Can be between 0 and 99.

Blank

Maximum Wait For A Tone

Enter a number to indicate the duration (in seconds) that the system will wait for a tone before taking the action indicated in the "Action on time-out" entry. Can be between 0 and 99.

Blank

Action on Time-out

Select the action to take if the Maximum Wait for a Tone expires.

Action

Definition

Outpulse default

Outpulse tone as defined by the appropriate Trunk Circuit Descriptor form.

Outpulse DTMF

Always outpulse DTMF tones (overrides the default tone).

Busy tone and release

Release the trunk and send a busy signal to the caller.

Reorder tone and release

Release the trunk and send a reorder tone to the caller.

Give answer

Connect both parties (talk state).

Blank

Member Number

System-generated, protected field. Identifies the member.

Tone To Detect

Select a detectable tone (see table below). For accurate results, enter only one tone for each Tone Plan Number.
